It is rare for a woman not to feel stuck at some point.

Either she begins to experience burnout, or she doesn’t reach her goals and can’t seem to get past a plateau.

It’s a normal part of life to feel stuck, but staying stuck isn’t. Successful women figure out how to overcome hurdles and continue to grow their lives and careers. The first step is to determine what exactly is holding them back.

Here are three tips to help you become unstuck:

Seek Clarity

When you don’t really know what it is you want for yourself, you’re experiencing a lack of clarity. Maybe you aren’t clear on who you’re meant to be, or maybe you can’t quite envision yourself doing what you dream.

These are all symptoms of a lack of clarity, and they can stop a promising woman in her tracks.

If you’re suffering from a lack of clarity, take a step back and do some brainstorming (or brain dumping) to get everything out. This alone can help you get clear on what your next step is should be. Don’t hold back; write down everything.

I recently heard Jack Canfield say “if you can envision it you can do it.”

Focus

I am working on this one…ughhh!

If you’re clear on your goals, but you’re having trouble moving forward consistently, then a lack of focus might be your trouble area. You head to your office each morning with purpose, but by lunch it’s clear you haven’t accomplished anything you set out to do.

You’re not a bad person. You just have trouble focusing on the next step that needs to happen to make your dreams come true.

Try this: With your end goal in mind, brainstorm the next physical action you need to take to achieve it. If your goal is to schedule “me time,” then your next step might be to pick up the phone and make a manicure or massage appointment.

Be Excited

Bored? Lost interest in your work? This is, unfortunately, pretty common among women in the workplace. That’s why we see the Gig Economy growing at such a fast rate.

Staying excited about your work starts with having a dream that keeps you going even when you’re faced with day-to-day drudgery in the workplace. Not everything is fun; however, if you keep your “why” in mind, it can help you get past the dull spots.

Want to know how to easily fix all these issues (and more)? There’s a simple trick that the world’s most successful women have been using for decades: vision boards. These fun and colorful tools are often just what you need to clarify your dreams, work out your next steps, and stay excited about your life. I am a HUGE fan of them.

Vision boards can be as simple as a few images clipped from a magazine and pinned to a corkboard or as complex as a framed poster with hand-lettered quotes and personal inspiration. The choice is yours. It’s completely personal, super fun, and best of all, it works. Give it a try next time you’re feeling stuck in your career and life.

Do you have a vision board? If not, start one today or just wait to read my next blog post.

Which of these three areas are you struggling in and what steps are you taking? Please share…
